Part One:
The first task we will accomplish today is the completion of our vocabulary cards.  Using the vocabulary words Miss Lamb gave us last week, we will finish transferring definitions to our index card.  We will only have approximately 15 minutes to do this in class.  Anything we do not finish becomes homework.

OBJECTIVE:  Today we will expand our vocabulary through learning 4 Latin roots and 12 words using those roots.

CCSS:  Language 4. Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and
phrases by using context clues and analyze meaningful word parts.

Part Two:
In continuing to learn about our classmates and ourselves, we will read George Ella Lyon's "Where I'm From" poem.  We will read it multiple times, employing different strategies each time.  You will use the information generated in today's Warm-Up to create your own "Where I'm From" poems.  On Thursday when you come to class, you should have your poem completed.  It should be typed and printed.  Extra credit for including pictures!

OBJECTIVE:  We will examine where we are from to create a poem, using George Ella Lyon's "Where I'm From" as a model.  As we share with our classmates, we will learn more about each other.

CCSS:  Literature 4. Determine the meaning of words; 5. Analyze an author's choices concerning struture; 7. Analyze multiple interpretations of a poem.
