Today we will divide our hour into two parts:

Part One:
We will review the 1999 Prose Passage Analysis Prompt that we worked on in pairs on Thursday.  Miss Lamb will pass your papers back out and we will go over everything together.

A link to the passage can be found here:  http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/members/repository/eng_lit_99_6924.pdf

Part Two:
We will begin our tone words project and have the rest of the class period to work on it.  Please the document below for specifics.  Your tone word presentation is on THURSDAY.

Today we will discuss the first reading assignment and questions associated with Beowulf.  We will also go over and practice using the AP question stems Miss Lamb passed out on Wednesday.

Miss Lamb is out today.

We will work on the 1999 prose passage AP exam question.   You will read and annotate the passage in pairs using your AP literary terms packets.

Then, you will create a rough outline in sentence form.  Each pair only needs to turn in one outline.

Today we begin Beowulf!  Duhn duhn duuuuuh...

First we will examine a Prezi over Beowulf providing necessary background information to aid our understanding of the text.  The link to the Prezi is here:  http://prezi.com/bxwh6azge5n6/intro-to-beowulf/?auth_key=c328a9e8a89847a2743fc81295f4fafadd598b05

Then, we will complete a paired reading of "The Heroic Ideal."  In pairs, you will read the essay a paragraph at a time and then explain what you learned.  Your partner will then fill in any gaps in your explanation.  You will trade off each paragraph.

And finally, the moment you've all been waiting for...  Miss Lamb will pass out Beowulf as well as your reading assignments.  We will go over them, and if there is any time left, you may begin reading!  Remember:  Your first reading assignment is due FRIDAY!

Welcome back to school!  I hope you enjoyed your three-day weekend.  The next one happens in two weeks.  :-)

Today we will be starting two elements of AP literature that you will use as reference points throughout the year.

First, you will recieve a copy of "AP Literary Terms."  It's 11 pages long, and don't worry, you do not have to memorize it word for word!  However, you should be familiar with the terms and able to apply them.  You will be using these terms on Thursday for our Passage Analysis.  Do not lose them!  (You should put them in your binder under "Notes")

Second, we will begin our Major Works Data Sheet.  For this assignment, you will be completing two of them--one for the book you chose for your summer assignment and second one for another book of literary merit you have read in school.  If you can choose a book from junior year, that woud be even better.  These sheets will serve as a reviewing tool when we are closer to the test.  We will be completing them for every major work we study.
